The Effect of Breastfeeding Education on Third-Trimester Pregnant Women's Motivation to Prepare for Breastfeeding at Nuangan Health Center

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants; however, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding has not yet reached the expected target. One factor influencing breastfeeding success is maternal motivation, which needs to be fostered starting from pregnancy through appropriate education. This study aims to analyze the effect of education on the importance of breast milk on the motivation of third-trimester pregnant women in preparing for breastfeeding in the service area of the Nuangan Community Health Center. The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 30 third-trimester pregnant women selected using total sampling. Data were collected using motivation questionnaires administered before and after the educational intervention and were then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Wilcoxon test with a 95% significance level. The results showed that before the intervention, the majority of respondents had “adequate” motivation (86.7%), and none had “good” motivation. After receiving education, 76.7% of respondents had “good” motivation, while those in the “adequate” category decreased to 10.0%. The analysis results showed a significant effect of education on the importance of breastfeeding on the motivation of third-trimester pregnant women in preparing for breastfeeding (p=0.000), with a strong correlation (r=0.797). Antenatal education has been proven effective in increasing mothers’ motivation to prepare for the breastfeeding process; therefore, it needs to be continuously integrated into antenatal care as an effort to support the success of exclusive breastfeeding.
