Abstract

Duration of labor is an important indicator in assessing labor progress and is associated with the safety of both the mother and the baby. One factor suspected to influence the duration of labor is maternal age; however, research findings regarding the relationship between the two remain inconsistent. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal age and duration of labor among parturients at Kotamobagu City General Hospital. The study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 50 parturient women selected using total sampling. Data were obtained from medical records using an observation form and were then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman’s Rho test after conducting a normality test. The results showed that the mean maternal age was 26.06 ± 7.05 years, with a mean duration of labor of 8.75 ± 5.69 hours. Bivariate analysis indicated that there was no significant association between maternal age and duration of labor (p = 0.328; r = 0.141). These findings indicate that the duration of labor is a multifactorial condition influenced not only by maternal age but also by other factors such as parity, fetal condition, the strength of uterine contractions, and labor management. Therefore, comprehensive monitoring of labor progress is necessary through the use of partographs and early detection of obstetric risk factors to support the safety of both mother and baby.
